The end of the epilogue is here!!!!! Part 4 After Ben came out of the car and came into the house, the afternoon was normal. I don’t know what I had expected, but everything just was simple. We ate lunch together, then went out and played in the fields. Later Ben told Phoebe and I why he was late. Well, He didn’t say exactly what had happened. He said his mother needed him. I understood what he meant, Phoebe on the other hand had never “ met “ his mother so she did not know everything. Then Phoebe did something that surprised me, she told Ben about her mother. To you it may not seem like a lot, but this subject caused Phoebe a lot of pain. I was one of the very few people who knew. After Phoebe had finished, Ben looked at her, not in aw and not in sympathy. He just nodded. He understood. Phoebe’s action had given me courage. She was able to tell Ben her mother’s story even though she hated it. Just out of understanding. She wasn’t searching for sympathy when she told him. Phoebe was hoping to show understanding. At that moment I decided to tell them my mother’s story. It just felt right. I told them everything; Tulip, My Mother’s death, my trip to her grave, Gram’s death... It made me feel better to know that we all had lost our mother’s. It wasn’t because I wanted them to suffer, it just made me feel more normal. They left that night. I went outside after dinner to visit a place I liked to visit. The grave I had built my mother. I liked to think that half of her spirit would be there, with me, and the other half at her real grave in Lewiston, Idaho. I was out there with a flashlight. My mother’s grave was a big slab of stone, on it I wrote : Chanhassen Hiddle Nothing else, except for the drawing of her spirit, that I had made. It was a maple leaf and above it was a tree. A singing tree. I also buried her hair, which I had kept, and all the postcards she had sent to me. I was on my way walking home, when I heard Gramps’ voice. I turned off my flashlight and let my eyes adjust to the darkness. I went closer to where I heard his voice. There was sitting next to Gram’s gravestone. I sat down in the shadow of a tree so he would not see me. Then he pulled out a flashlight and opened his notebook. I could see three tears fall down his face. I listened to him a good part of the night as he told Gram’s about Phoebe. He told her about her resemblance to Gloria. I was surprised my father did not come out to get me, but I was sure he knew I was here. THE END
